Currently using NetBackup 7.6.0.4, when i try to do a duplicate job the error (86) in activity monitor appear.I already reboot media server and Tape Library, but still error.The detail logs below:

I've installed the backup agent on LINUX client to take a STANDARD bacup after a policy was created and the backup was taken smothly, I've noticed other jobs running on the same client amd don't have policy and returning error 230, please check the attached jobs sample

I have a query about catalog size growth, in my environment Daily full backup for database and daily incremental backup for file system, databases are Oracle and exchange with one week retentions some databases daily retentions are two weeks and 45 days also.

Weekly full backup retention for all is one month. And monthly backup retention on disk two months and on tape infinite. We have BMR backup also for windows and Linux clients backup contain All_local_drives.

My catalog size is 800 gb after enabling the compression, my netbackup environment is only 20 months old. Please suggest me what is the maximum catalog size that netbackup can handle with good performance. Total daily backup in environment is 22 TB, weekly and monthly backup size is 63 TB

NBU version: - 7.6.0.4

OS: - windows 2008 R2

VERITAS Cluster: - Yes

I could do with some help. We have just created an Exchange 2010 organization in our development environment. I have been tasked with getting the GRT backups to work, and prove a restore. We currently run Exch 2003 so this is our first Exch2010 organization. I have followed the symantec guide for getting GRT to work including creating a unique user account for running the services on the client, adding NFS and creating the policy. I am trying to backup the DAG which has 2 mailbox servers. I have checked that DAG replication is healthy and the DAG name can be resolved by the Master/ media servers. I have ensured that the unique service account for the Exch backups has an associated mailbox, and I have sent and recieved an email from that account. I have looked for bkbar and bpfis logs on the clients but nothing is written to them, as though the backup job fails immediately. I am backing up to a NBU5230 storage unit. I am running NB 7.6.0.4, with the clients at that version also. I have installed the latest Symantec VSS provider on the DAG members.

The exchange organization utilise Windows server 2008 R2 Enterprise.

Policy:

The backup selction used is: Microsoft Exchange Database Availability Groups:\

The client name is the fqdn of our DAG

In the attributes i have selected, perform snapshot backups, ticked Enable granular recovery.

Any advice is appreciated.

We have 4239 errors on our VMWare backup snapshot. In our client's existing VM, but NetBackup can not find it.

I have to redo the VM client configuration in the Netbackup policies for the backup works.

Do you have a solution?

My setting are good and it worked well before.

For the last couple of of days, I have been getting the following message from my Netbackup 7.5:

sql9,ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES,VMware-Guests,238974,"Sep 8, 2015 9:13:23 AM","Sep 8, 2015 9:13:04 AM",156

In of itself, I understand the error. Normally I would fix it, however, the server "sql9" is powered off and has been for over six months. Stranger yet, this server is not listed in the policy "VMware-Guests" and has never been to my knowledge. Althouh sql9 is a VM if it matters and that policy is a VMWare policy.

I also looked in the activity log and there is no mention of any failed attempts on this server.

Where could I look to try and get this server off the policy? I did try and add the server in manually, but because ti is powered off, it doesn't add fully and netbackup returns an error that it couldn't communicate. I then deleted sql from the policy. So we'll see if that helps. Meanwhile I was hoping if anyone else could share any other ideas.

Is this expected behaviour?

I've set up traditional (non-clustered) NDMP backups using NBU 7.6.0.x & NDMP cDot ontap 8.3.x - they are working OK.  Restores are working but there appears to be a limitation.   Restores only work back to the same controller, only tested back to the same LIF.   Attempting to restore to another controller that's a member of the cluster always fails.

Clients: Win 2008 R2, NBU 7.5 (Cluster)

We have two clients dat02 & dat03 which are nodes of active/Passive cluster. Active node is dat03.

Now Shadow copy compoenents backups for both clients are failing with volume resolution error.

on Passive node dat02 it is failing with EC156 and on dat03 failing with EC90.

In bpbkar logs of dat02 I found it is trying to resolve volume F:\, which is actually a cluster disk and present on active node dat03.

I used w2koption command to exclude this volume.

..\..\bin\w2koption  -backup -ignore_unresolved_volumes F:

and it has been ignored as per output of  w2koption  -backup -display

but still backups are failing on both clients. I observed in bpbkar logs, dat02 is still trying to resolve volume F:\

Please suggest if I am missing anything.

Is there any way we can find out the actual amount of data that is being transferred through WAN (AIR) from Onestie site to Other site.

I referred the replication.log on the storage server .but calculating each CR-sent is time taking and Opscenter SLP report is showing only the total size of the image not the actual transferred size.

For an example : Client A backup is 5 TB &stored into de-dup disk pool and its 90 % de-duplicated .this backup images are replicated to DR site long back ago which took more than a week to complete 5 TB transfer.

For the same Client A -recent backup completed with 98 % de-dup ,when i try to replicate the current image its completed in 2 hours ,that means only the changes since last replicated data was transferred over WAN or the entire 5 TB was transferred ?

We are taking backup of raw devices where we have found 30TB of raw data backed up to a single LTO4 tape.LTO4 tape capacity has a capacity of 800GB uncompressed data , It takes upto 1.6TB of compressed data  but  30TB of data has been written onto the tape. Eventhough we have 20 Tapes assigned to that specific pool   only two Tapes are being utilized. If raw data will the capacity of tape differ. Could anyone please clarify?

Hello , i was looking around if there any way to take online - hot backup for Sybase DBs using NetBackup 7.6.1.1 as it was stated by the admins that they cannot have online backups so they have a backup window to backup the data to a local disk then Veritas will take the data from the local drives , cannot Veritas take the backups online directly !?

I've got an issue with Wanoptimization option. Although it's enabled, all the copies of my server in site B connected to Main site by 100Mb point to point circuit are using Non-Optimized traffic.

Furthermore, the copy (file server in vmware machine using another vmware machine as VM backup host in the same vmware host) has decreased the speed from 80 Mb/s to 50 Mb/s suddenly. I mean, previous weekends, the copy took 50 hours, now it's taking 77H copying the same data. I've just launched a test copying only O.S. disk and as you can see above it has a constant download speed of 50Mb/s

Other data: I've got set up resiliance network with between Master/Media server and file server, there is no "Accelerator" license (don't ask, long story...). File server is Windows 2012, Master and Media Server is Netbackup Appliance 5230, Vmware host ESX 5.1

So, I've got two problems, Wanoptimization seems not to be working, and the decreasing of speed.

Do you know where the problem could be?

I have a question regarding deduplication and AIR : when a replication is interrupted for any reason (link failure, server reboot, ....) are the block already sent to the other site totaly lost ? With other words, when the replication is restarted (from 0 of course) , is it really not optimized (supposing it is the first time it runs) or the first part of the replication can take advantage of already sent blocks ?

I imagine the blocks received by the remote MSDP are stored then could be potentially be used ... but maybe they are flagged "to be deleted" when the replciation process is broken and then can not be used ...

If anybody has knowlegde or ideas on this point ....

I got a request to backup of Windows 2000 machines - Currently am running Netbackup Master Server version is 7.5.

So I though if we install Netbackup client package 6.5 on 2000 machine, we can configure the backups. But couldn't get the client package for 6.5 version. 

Can some one please help me to get the Client package for 6.5 Version for windows client.

And please let me know if we have any other alternate to configure backup for Windows 2000 machine.
