Can image cleanup process be shut down?

I am importing images from multiple tapes. It takes several hours to import the data from each tape so I generally start the import in the afternoon and let it run over night. At about midnight each night, the cleanup process runs and I am afraid it is deleting some of the files I am trying to restore. Is it possible to shut down the process completely?
